STEFAN DIEZ AND SAMMODE

For over 50 years, Sammode has built an unrivalled reputation in the field of strip lighting thanks to the success of its tubular luminaires. It is now launching its new MOD range of spotlights, the result of a fruitful collaboration with German designer Stefan Diez.

Stefan Diez was born in 1971 into a family of carpenters, which he represents in the fourth generation. Before opening his own agency, he was assistant to the German designer Konstantin Grcic. His background as a craftsman has had a lasting influence on him, with his love of experimentation, especially with materials.

"The way we met was as simple as possible. Sammode came to me with a great story: the history of the manufacturing process of tubular lighting. The Sammode factory in Châtillon-sur-Saône in the Vosges presents itself as a toolbox: it offers a collection of parts that can be used to produce many different versions; in other words, a system. This convinced me to take part in this adventure."

"I was really interested in working with a European company, a French and family-run company that produces in France. There is so much know-how in Europe and it cannot be the case that everything always has to disappear to Asia or somewhere else, otherwise jobs will also disappear. We designers have to participate in society in a more social way and reflect holistically, not just designing a product but taking the entire production chain into account: how, where, what is produced, with and by whom."
