SCHOTTLEUCHTE BAKELITE WALL LIGHT OUTDOOR – This wall light made of black Bakelite in a timeless design can be installed both indoors and outdoors and is also suitable for bathrooms.

Developed at the beginning of the 20th century by the Belgian chemist Leo Baekeland - from whom the term takes its name - Bakelite is known for its heat-resistant properties as well as its stability and high electrical insulation. Until the 1960s, Bakelite was involved in the development of many technical innovations - such as the telephone and radio. However, for financial reasons, Bakelite was gradually replaced by thermoplastic, which is less dense but also of poorer quality. Functionally and aesthetically, Bakelite is the ideal material for electrical engineering.

In order to offer a high-quality alternative to thermoplastics, some factories on the European continent are now restarting the production of Bakelite using traditional molds and tools.
